Gottlieb Rencher the senior assistant to the doctor on board Carpathia who helped Mrs Astor has a fascinating story which is in The Titanic Historical Society archives. Amongst his belongings donated to the THS Collection were his key (attached to his leather strap) to Carpathias dispensary and
a rare gold Carpathia medal presented by the infamous first class Titanic survivor Margaret (Molly) Tobin Brown. The unsinkable Molly Brown presented bronze medals to Carpathias crew while gold were given to the officers. A total of 300 medals were struck of which 14 were gold.
